To operate a bag machine and produce bags to fulfill scheduled customer requirements and specifications while achieving the highest quality and output possible. Perform regular quality checks and strive to achieve elimination of waste and a reduction in defects. Communicate and work cooperatively with your supervisor and members of your shift team.

**This position is on a continental shift, 12 hour shifts, rotating from days to nights every two weeks.

– 7 shifts in a pay period, which equals 84 hours in a two week period.

– Scheduled to work every other weekend.

– The hours are from 7am to 7pm during the day shift, switching to 7pm to 7am during the night shift, bi-weekly.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up bag machines to comply with customer bag specifications;
  • Perform necessary adjustments as required to the bag machine;
  • Load rolls of film (using hydraulic or electric lift trucks), accurately stringing through the bag machine;
  • Create cases (boxes) according to customer specifications, ensure all cases are labeled, stacked, initialed and identified correctly;
  • Maintain the bag machine by performing minor maintenance as required, and maintain the area around and under the machine ensuring a safe, clean and organized environment;
  • Arrange the set up of the bag machine for the following shift, informing the Lead Had or Plant Manager of low inventory and any problems with the machine;
  • Produce accurate, concise, timely and legible information and record keeping for the production log.
  • ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure all scrap, empty cores, film rolls, skids and cased bags are stored in correct designated areas;
  • Adherence to all Health & Safety, Fire Emergency and Polyethics’ Policies and Procedures;
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Salary: $14.25 to $14.50 /hour

Maintenance Associate

SUMMARY

Be part of a fast-paced team working on a variety of equipment including state of the art extrusion and bag converting lines. We are a growing company looking to expand our maintenance department to match increased capacity being installed. Working under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, you will maintain the machines and premises at all Polyethics plants. This will include, but not be limited to: general maintenance to include lighting, heating, ventilation, electrical, plumbing and other internal and/or external building maintenance that may require repair, preventative maintenance on all machines and related systems, and the fast repair of all machines in operation. Maintain a clean and safe plant, working with the JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) to complete all requested changes or updates for a safe environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on all machines (bag converting, extrusion, hydraulic or electric lift carts, blenders, vacuum pumps, etc.) located at our plants with minimal ‘down’ time;
  • Establish and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all plants;
  • Participate in discussions around process improvements, equipment upgrades, etc.;
  • Maintain an inventory of products and supplies for general maintenance;
  • Order parts as required, with approval from the Operations Manager, and/or coordinate with the office for purchase orders and packing slips;
  • Perform minor repairs on plumbing and appliances, heating, ventilation, lights and fixtures as required;
  • Work with the maintenance team to provide general maintenance of the buildings and related equipment as required and requested;
  • Maintain cleanliness and a safe work environment at all times;
  • Work overtime, on-call or day/evening shift as required;
  • Assist with all work orders as received, maintain clear, concise and accurate reports as required;
  • Follow safe operating procedures, wear all required personal protective gear required;
  • Willingness to attend training as necessary

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Must be highly motivated, well organized, team-oriented individual with a minimum of two years’ experience in general plant maintenance, machine operations and with an attention to detail;
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent experience;
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds using lift trucks/carts in a production location
  • Working at Heights & Elevated Work Platform training an asset
